Abu Dhabi Championship: Lee Westwood shoots 65 to take the lead after the third round

Lee Westwood shot a seven-under-par 65 to lead one blow after three rounds of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

The Englishman hit six birdies, an eagle and a bogey to go down to 14, with leader of the night Francesco Laporta and Bernd Wiesberger at 13 below.

Italy Laporta played a 69, while Austria's Wiesberger matched Westwood & 65.

"It was fun. I play well and ride the ball well," said the 46-year-old Westwood.

"I am not going to lie, I have not played much golf, I did not know what to expect. To be in the lead with one round, it is a real positive.

" I just go outside and play as well as I can and, if it's good enough, then great.

"I know I am talented enough to win the tournament, it's just a matter of registering."

Matthew Fitzpatrick of England is 12 under after a 69, with the Spanish Sergio Garcia a further shot back.
