Best Golf Courses in Illinois

August 5, 2020

From the northern suburbs of Chicago to Effingham and throughout the state, Illinois is dotted with great golf courses that almost every golfer will enjoy. Once the state finally shakes off the winter weather, you will be treated to beautiful greens and rolling fairways. And whether you're near the Windy City or taking a tour of one of the state's flagship universities, make sure to take some time out for a round of golf when you get there. Here are just four of our golfers' favorites to get you off to a great start when playing some of the best golf courses in Illinois.

Turtle Run Golf Club

Located
less than an hour from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
The Turtle Run Golf Club in Danville is well worth the short drive. Local golfers
and visitors also agree that the creeks and streams meander throughout the river
property, the trees and bunkers that are strategically placed, and the four tee
box options make this an excellent place to get to know almost any club
in your bag. And the peaceful environment, hidden between farmland and prairie
grasses, you can focus on and enjoy your full round.

Arrowhead Golf Club

Arrowhead
Golf Club, just outside the big city in Wheaton, Illinois, combines three
9-hole layouts in 27 holes from which you can put together a great one
18 hole round. Our golfers love the combination of South and East courses,
which makes excellent use of the mature trees, well placed water and lots of it
the 77 total bunkers. It doesn't matter which 18 hole combination you go for,
but the unique and challenging nature makes for a great experience
the course.

Aldeen Golf Club

Get up
road to the northern part of Illinois, northwest of Chicago and just south of
Wisconsin state line, and plan to play golf at Aldeen Golf Club
in Rockford. The wide and forgiving fairways invite golfers of every skill
level, while the long distances make you work to keep your score in
to check. Golfers love that the grounds are always well maintained, and the
excellently placed bunkers ensure that you take a moment to prepare them
critical shots.

Ravisloe Country Club

Built in 1901, Ravisloe Country Club in Homewood, Illinois has been a player favorite for decades and is considered one of the best golf courses in Illinois. The first hole takes you into your round, but holes 2 and 3 immediately require serious drives for their par-5 length (535 and 490 yards, respectively). The final par-5, a 550-yard 13-meter, really lets golfers go with their driver, but the smaller, protected green ensures you sharpen your approach shot or short game to keep the scorecard neat.
