Graeme McDowell strives for a first Irish Open success on Mount Juliet

Graeme McDowell says it is a "huge privilege" to be named as the host of the Irish Open in 2020 and 2021.

The former US Open winner of Portrush takes over Paul McGinley in the role of the Mount Juliet event in May.

A location has yet to be confirmed for the 2021 Irish Open

"I am really looking forward to taking responsibility in the next two years and adding to the history of this great tournament, "McDowell said.

Mount Juliet in Kilkenny County will organize the tournament for the first time in 25 years on 28. May 31.

"Our island is famous for its incredible golf courses and passionate golf enthusiasts, both north and south of the border, and of course I would like to bring the event to Northern Ireland in 2021," 10 European winner added Tour winner McDowell.

"But my focus is now on nex t year on Mount Juliet and making it a world-class sporting occasion again.

" It is an event that has become a worldwide spectacle where Irish golf fans can be proud of. "
