It's time to play in Outback Queensland!

If you've ever wanted to visit the outback – and grab the golf sticks for a road trip you'll never forget – the Outback Queensland Masters is your dream come true.

The OQM is launched today at Victoria Park Golf in Brisbane and offers golfers of all ages and levels the chance to bring their games to all corners of Queensland in 2019.

This multi-staged event is an opportunity for the amateur golfer to test their skills in a premium competition that takes place all over Outback Queensland, with the ultimate life-changing opportunity in the million dollar gap in Mt Isa.

Queensland Minister of Innovation and Development of the Tourism Industry Kate Jones said that the tournaments also coincide with festivals and functions in each city, the perfect reason for golfers and their families to see the state at its best.

"The event was designed as a tourist experience, to attract visitors to Outback Queensland, to extend their stay and to spread the travels throughout the region," said Minister Jones.

One of the few sports you can start at any age, golf is also focused on the social aspect of playing with your friends and family. And what is a better way to get involved than with what you travel?

The chief executive of Golf Australia, Stephen Pitt, was enthusiastic about the innovative concept.

"Not only will it shine a spotlight on a number of large regional Queensland centers, but also on some golf courses that have great appeal, if not the reputation," Pitt said.

"Whether they are on sand or grass green, the courses that the OQM field will play are unique and a great portrayal of golf as a welcoming cornerstone of communities in Australia.

"I am sure that the rounds, courses and club experiences in every center are something that participants will remember for years.

"Whether for one, two or all courses, play around in Outback Queensland and join the Outback Queensland Masters."
