Paul Lawrie has acted to prevent players from not having a Tour Wave until March
] Former Open Champion Paul Lawrie hopes his new Tartan Pro Tour will have a " lifeline "may be for professional golfers considering leaving the sport.
Lawrie, 51, has announced the creation of a six-event Scottish tour running through August.
The European and Challenge Tours will resume soon, but the third level EuroPro Tour has canceled its season, leaving players facing an uncertain future.
Lawrie hopes his Tartan Pro Tour can help them.
"My son Craig has a EuroPro exemption, but guys like him I can't play anywhere until March," he said. So this is a lifeline for an absolute stack of them, men and women. There is currently very little for the girls. "
Carnoustie and Royal Dornoch are among the venues for the events, which are played over 36 holes, with a maximum field of 72 male and female professional players.
Lawrie may have won a big one and was part of a victorious European Ryder Cup team, but admits he got this new tour alongside his other golf achievements.
He added, "It is important that it is successful and that people support it, and we keep the sponsors in and we keep the locations high."
