Lightning struck a tree on the East Lake Golf Club course

Six people were injured after two lightning strikes at the season-dependent Tour Championship in Atlanta.

The game was suspended at 4.17 pm local time because of thunderstorms in the area and at 4.45 pm there were two lightning strikes close to the 15th green at East Lake Golf Club.

A tree was hit and rubble from that strike hit six people, the PGA Tour said.

A statement added the injuries "don't seem to be life threatening."

Organizers said that paramedics had a tendency to have six fans on the track, five of which were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The third round was suspended to play on Sunday at 8 a.m. local time (1 p.m. BST).

American Justin Thomas led one shot from Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland and Brooks Koepka, number one in the world when the game was suspended.
