Famous Golf Courses Bookable on GolfNow: TPC Louisiana New Orleans

April 20, 2021

New Orleans has long been a professional host to golf tournaments dating back to 1938 – pre-dating the PGA Tour! It is not for nothing. N’awlins is one of the country's most festive cities. In between tee times, enjoy fine Cajun cuisine and enjoy all the sights, sounds, and libations of the French Quarter. Booking an early morning tee time at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans can be an added motivation to slow down on Bourbon Street the night before.

What makes New Orleans even better for golf is that TPC Louisiana, now the host of the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic, is publicly available and bookable on GolfNow. The course was designed by Pete Dye with local player consultant Kelly Gibson and opened in 2004. It also got an extensive facelift in 2019, so he plays as good as ever and GolfPass's many five-star reviews reflect that.

The course is located about 20 minutes outside the French Quarter and is in a quiet and scenic area in the countryside. It's so low that the bunkers have a cool, built-up look. The PGA Tour plays the routing at up to 7,400 yards, but my goodness, play one of four forward tees that go up to 5,100 yards. Remember that balls don't fly too far on the sticky bayou.

Perhaps the best thing about TPC Louisiana is all of the risk reward elements involved in the design of the course, including several short par 4s like the 8th. Big swingers can go for the green, but there are plenty of bunkers in the way. The 18th hole is one of the most exciting finishing holes in the PGA Tour schedule. Who doesn't like an achievable par 5 to finish a round? But be warned, waterlines to the right and bunkers sprinkle the fairway and greenery. Today, the Zurich Classic is now a unique team event on the PGA Tour schedule. Book a foursome, team up and play aggressive! No mention of TPC Louisiana is complete without the mention of the club's & # 39; pro-emeritus & # 39; resident, Tripod, the three-legged alligator who likes to traverse the grounds' various ponds, especially at the 9th and 18th hole. Please respect his home and keep your distance if you see him or his neighbors.

TPC Louisiana has made the State Golfers' Choice list five years in a row, and was nationally 18th in off-course amenities in 2018. Or as reviewer & # 39; TheWhizz77 & # 39; put it in its five-star review written in March 2020: beautiful course, requires all strokes, fantastic pace of play and conditions. Watch out for the 4th hole !! Arrive early and stay late if you book a TPC Louisiana tee time. The practice facility is of TPC quality excellent with a short game area and an all-grass range. The clubhouse restaurant also has fine cajun staples.

Also, don't sleep on the previous PGA Tour host course in New Orleans. English Turn Golf & Country Club is a semi-private Jack Nicklaus design that opened in the mid-1980s and hosted the event from 1989 to 2004. Jack created a unique route surrounded by a lagoon that provides more separation from the job and the homes. The highlight is the par-5 15th hole which has an island green. Smoke a big ride and you'll be tempted to go broke and reach it in half. English Bend facilities are beautiful, including one of the largest clubhouses you will ever see. Keep chasing for a Po'Boy in the restaurant.
