Fire destroys Wentworth Golf Club

The golf community in the center of Orange's city center winds this morning after the fire destroyed the Wentworth Golf Club clubhouse overnight.

Emergency services were called to the course at about 1.40 a.m. with the club well on fire. They spent several hours trying to control the fire before they were brought under control.

"It's a very sad day for the club", a spokesperson for the club said in a bleak message on Facebook

"The club has been destroyed, but the Pro Shop seems to be relatively undamaged."

The entire facility has been closed and the police have instituted a crime scene.

The club would hold one of its most popular events tomorrow, the mixed four-championship.
