Objectles – Purpose Driven Golf Balls
This is an object lesson with a golf ball to share the gospel and to teach children that if you truly love God, you will show your love to others. The Bible verse that was used to strengthen the teaching is 1 John 4: 7-11.
Lesson:
(Show the golf ball.) For what purpose was this ball made? (To be struck by golf clubs and beaten in a hole.) You and I are also made for a purpose and that goal is to get to know and love God in a special way.
This ball did not happen by chance. A lot of study and work has been done to make this ball so that it flies as far as possible. The core material (which you can not see) is designed to have exactly the right size, shape and weight, so that it can be hit for long distances. Some are also designed to give more spin to the ball to give a good golfer more control. The material for the cover also had to be designed exactly right. It should be smooth enough, so there will be less friction while the ball moves through the air and hard enough to hit the clubs. Even the number, size and shape of the dimples in the ball have been thoroughly studied. They even have a specific purpose.
You and I did not come into being by accident either. In Genesis 1, God's Word makes it clear that he has created us. He has not made us just for something to do; he had a reason. He wants you and me to get to know him in a special way and learn to really love him.
There is no wasted material in a golf ball. Each part has a plan and a goal, even the parts that you can not see. Hours and hours of study and work were spent on making this ball, all for one basic purpose; that the golfer can hit the ball as far as possible without breaking. You and I were also made for a purpose, to know God in a special way and to learn to love him. You begin to fulfill that purpose when you believe in the Lord Jesus as your Savior of sin. (Share the message of the gospel.)
Once you have believed in Jesus, that is just the beginning. To get to know God, you must get to know him. The way to do that is to spend time every day praying and reading and studying the Bible and letting him be a part of your daily life. In 1 John 4 God tells us that we must love each other because love comes from God. Because he loves us, we must pass on that love to others. When you show his love to others; your love for him will continue to grow. If you truly love God, you will show his love to others.
