Rule option available on broken clubs

Broken clubs can be replaced through the local rule, but not if they are intentionally abused.

The USGA and R & A have provided a clarification that introduces a local rule, allowing players to replace a broken or severely damaged club, except in cases of abuse.

Under the local rule, a club is "broken or considerably damaged" if it meets the following conditions:

• the shaft breaks into pieces, splinters or is bent (but not when the shaft is only dented)

• the folding surface of the club is visibly deformed (but not when the club face is scratched alone)

• the club head is visible and considerably deformed

• the club head is detached or detached from the shaft, or

• the handle is loose

However, a player is not allowed to replace his or her club alone because there is a tear in the club's face or club head.

Club committees can immediately start using this local rule.
