Victory for Warringah in Course Battle

Warringah Golf Club members celebrate after Coucnil has offered them a new 20-year lease

Warringah Golf Club celebrates today following a unanimous decision by the Northern Beaches Council to offer the club a new 20-year lease on their golf course.

The decision will ensure that the course retains the 18-hole format for members, visitors and corporate golf events.

Warringah Golf Club President, Mr. Scott Campbell said the decision was a victory for the community and added that the decision would provide the club with long-term security after years of uncertainty.

"This is a victory for the northern beach community and for golfers of all ages and levels.

"It has been a long and exhausting process, but the club can now move on to an exciting new future.

In particular, we would like to thank our members, the northern beach residents, the Council and city council members who have strongly objected to plans to reduce the route to nine holes, "said Mr. Campbell

More than 65,000 rounds of golf are played every year in Warringah, giving residents a healthy and inclusive sport and recreational activity on the northern beach area.

The decision also enables local people to maintain meaningful social and community networks that might otherwise have been lost

Mr. Campbell said the club would, over time, invest in important works and equipment once the new lease with Council.

is signed.

"We have been in trouble for almost four years because the District Park Plan of Management was approved by the former Warringah Council and subsequently suspended by the former Council Administrator.

"We will roll out a major work program for the course and continue to finance and purchase new equipment once the new lease with the Council is signed," he said.

Mr. Campbell said the club would hold an open dialogue with Council regarding the construction of a new sports and community building and the possible relocation of its clubhouse within District Park.

Mr Campbell said club membership would continue to be available, saying Warringah was the most affordable of the 18-hole outlets on the northern beaches.

"We now hope that we can rebuild our membership after the continuing uncertainty we have encountered," Mr Campbell added
