Don't fall for the bait – you'll never let it swing like Rory!

The title of this article is a bit absurd. I'm sure most of you think, "Of course I'm never gonna swing it like Rory McIlroy!"

When it is formulated in this way, it is easy to come to that conclusion. However, if you saw an article entitled, Rory McIlroy & 5's keys to rip your driver (a real title), many of you could not help but read. You want to know what the secret sauce is and apply it to your game.

This formula has been used by golf publications for decades. The person who is currently the best golfer will receive a recommended article and you will be promised to learn how to do what he does. Usually the information is very watered down and your golf game does not benefit.

Recently, when Rory McIlroy won the FedEx Cup title and was named Player of the Year during the PGA Tour, there was again a flood of articles about his driving skills, which is undoubtedly his greatest weapon. It's a bit stupid to me, but I understand why these articles exist. People are generally curious about what makes players like Rory so unique. But make no mistake, there is nothing you can learn from Rory, since it relates to your golf swing.

He can do things with his body that none of you can do

There have only been twice in my life when I saw a golf swing and my mouth fell open. The first was watching Tiger as a junior golfer when he won multiple USGA Amateur titles. The second time was when I saw Rory & # 39; s first performance at The 2007 Open in Carnoustie. I had never seen a swing that combined power, speed and grace as he did. At the age of 18 he had a world-class golf swing that is a combination of his natural talent and hard work.

Rory & # 39; s winning record since then has been well noted. He has also put a lot of work into his body, making him perhaps the best driver of the golf ball we've ever seen.

I recently saw some of his Trackman statistics on Instagram:

Although some of these numbers may not make sense to you, they are perfect. Long story short – he is capable of generating tremendous speed, hitting the ball in the center of the club magazine almost every time and creating optimum launch conditions to make the golf ball travel far and straight. If you watch it on TV, it's hard not to be surprised about his abilities.

When you see Rory in person, it is quite surprising. He is only 5 & # 39; 9 & # 39 ;, and most tour players who are powerful players are much larger than him. So how is he doing?

The Titleist Performance Institute measured Rory & # 39; s swing when he was a teenager using 3D analysis. Even before he started training, the speed of his hip curve and the separation he created between his upper and lower body were not in the charts compared to tour players.

Normal people cannot do this. Most golfers sit at a desk all day and therefore struggle with mobility in their golf swing. That is why it is unrealistic to suggest that every recreational player should try to rock like Rory does (or another tour player by the way). Your body cannot move as it can. If you try, you are likely to be injured.

There is not much to learn from Rory or another tour player

If you are a golf swing student and interested in discovering what makes world-class talent so great, I don't think it is evil to study it for fun.

My problem is when people dangle players like Rory and Dustin Johnson for regular golfers. You cannot choose elements from their swing and apply them to others. It is not realistic and it does not make you a better golfer.

So when you see these types of articles, my advice is to look the other way. They have been around for years and the cycle is likely to continue for a long time. It is nothing more than entertainment. Don't expect you to apply it to your swing!
