Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania

July 21, 2020

The state of Keystone offers great scenery and incredible spaces for any kind of outdoor activity – including golf. Golf courses in Pennsylvania take advantage of the state's beauty and features, from Appalachian Mountains to the shores of Lake Erie. While a full list of the great Pennsylvania golf courses would take up multiple pages, our golfers have rounded up these seven courses as some of their best recommendations for avid golfers.

Toftrees Resort

Just minutes from Penn State University's main campus, the Toftrees Resort golf course winds its way through oak and pine forests, providing golfers with a scenic setting for their round. The greens are exceptionally well maintained, but also difficult to read – your driver isn't the only club training here. And the eighth hole, entering over 600 meters, makes for a challenging par-5, even for tall drivers.

Golden Oaks Golf Club

Consistently ranked and rated as one of the best golf courses in Berks County, the Golden Oaks Golf Club combines wide and inviting fairways with changes in elevation and rolling terrain, all of which are a welcome challenge for any golfer. Placing a bunker here is impressive and it will take some careful planning to avoid spending too much time on the beach.

Iron Valley Golf Club

Iron Valley Golf Club, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, offers golfers two unique experiences in one round of golf. The front and rear nine are designed by P.B. Dye to have their own flavor meaning there is plenty to enjoy and many challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Rock formations, rolling terrain, and even a green island round out this unique Pennsylvania golfing experience.

Heritage Hills Golf Resort

The Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pennsylvania makes excellent use of the rolling hills that make up much of the terrain in this part of Pennsylvania. Perfectly maintained courts complement the undulating layout and give you a chance to play golf every time you play. Take into account the water hazards and native vegetation and you are sure to have a great time.

Bavarian Hills Golf Course

Bavarian Hills Golf Course first opened in 1990 and has been the pride of St. Mary's, Pennsylvania golfers ever since. Like many other courses in Pennsylvania, the elevation changes present a challenge to your game, but the shorter distance makes it possible to score well. Place your approaches neatly and your pit will also reward you, but be aware of the bunkers and a bit of water you may come across.

Trail / Blue at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club

Three nine-hole layouts complete the course at the Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, allowing for three different 18-hole combinations. Our golfers favor the Trail / Blue combination, which brings together the shortest nine-hole course with the longest to create a unique day on the course. Stunning woodland scenery, a few well-placed water hazards and a secluded feel give you a peaceful setting for this charming course.

Skytop Mountain Golf Club

Skytop Mountain Golf Club is regularly cited as a particularly challenging course for players who want a real test of their game. Sloping fairways give you yet another factor to consider on every ride, and any green can be deceiving to read. But in between these tests, your view will reward you every time you look around with beautiful valley views, mature trees, wildlife and more.
