& # 039; What Brooks said was not & # 039; t wrong & # 039; – McIlroy & # 039; didn & # 039; t must be remembered & # 039; about great drought
McIlroy defeated Koepka to be named PGA Tour player of the year by his fellow professionals
Rory McIlroy says that Brooks Koepka did not need to & # 39; remember & # 39; waiting for his fifth year for a fifth major title.
World number one Koepka said last week that he did not see McIlroy as an important rival because the Northern Irish had not won a major since 2014.
Since then, the American has held the US Open in 2017 and 2018 and the USPGA Championship in 2018 and 2019.
"What Brooks said was not wrong," McIlroy told GOLF TV during Japan Skins event.
"I mean, he has been the best player in the world for the last couple of years – four majors.
" I don't think he should remind me that I've had none for a while "
McIlroy, who won Koepka to this year's PGA Tour Player of the Year prize after winning the Fedex Cup title in August, says there is no bad blood between the pair, who are & # 39; good friends & # 39;
"I love Brooks, he's a great guy," added the world number two.
"He's obviously super- competitive, as we are all. I can see where he comes from.
"I think if you take what Brooks said out of context, it can become something big that it has become. But Brooks and I are good, we are good friends."
