The Australian Masters Games Golf program 2019 started in style on the East Course designed by Greg Norman at the Grange Golf Club on Monday, October 7.

106 male and female golfers from 59 different golf clubs from all over Australia shot up in the stableford competition, with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded in nine separate age, gender and handicap categories.

On a nice and mild day at the guest location for this year's ISPS Handa Women & # 39; s Australian Open, the score of the best men was returned by Luke Lorraine of the TPI and Veterans Golf Club with a score of 41 points in the age category 30-49. Wendy Cousins of Moora Lake View Golf Club in Western Australia achieved the best women's score with 38 points when eliminating the Ladies 70 and older group.

Other gold medal winners were:

Ladies – 30-59 – Nerida Saunders (North Adelaide) – 35 points

Ladies – 60-69 (one figure) – Libby Broomhead (The Grange) – 33 points

Ladies – 60-69 (B-class) – Jane Belcher (Nepean Women & # 39; s) – 37 points

Men – 50-59 – David Foster (The SGA) – 36 points

Men – 60-69 (A Grade) – Geoffrey Wilson (Victor Harbor) – 37 points

Men 60-69 (class B) – Dennis Ashton (Nambucca Heads) – 39 points

Men 70 and older – Derek Trusler (Nowra) – 31 points

Although all winners were rightly pleased with the award of the stylish medals as part of the event, perhaps the best story was from 87-year-old Helena Kotasek who was the silver medalist in the ladies 70 and older category with a handicap of 45.

Once a week player with ARPA Golf, a group of older golfers who routinely revolve around a number of Adelaide courses, Kotasek has participated in previous Australian Masters Games and loves the experience.

“I especially like to meet other golfers from all over Australia and just play golf. I don't see my age as a barrier at all, "she noted.

"I am so happy that I won this medal, it is really beautiful. We also had such a beautiful day."

Golf is indeed the game for life and the Australian Masters Games 2019 golf program continues Wednesday with a further stableford competition at the picturesque Mount Compass Golf Club, about 45 minutes south of Adelaide before ending the stroke event on Friday at West Lakes Golf Club.
