Shinkwin still birdie despite his memorable ride

Finding water from the tee has a whole new meaning for Callum Shinkwin.

The English golfer, 27, hit a shot he will tell for years at the 18th hole of the Cyprus Open on Thursday, landing his drive in a paper bag of cans of water

After hitting a tree, the ball plopped into the lunch bag – of a spotter – that sat at the base of the tree.

After jokingly pretending to take his second shot with the ball still in the bag, Shinkwin was released into a free fall.

And, undaunted by landing – literally – in the drink, he made a birdie, his seventh of the day.

Shinkwin fin ishes day one of the tournament in Paphos draw on four under par.
