WGC-Mexico Championship: Justin Thomas one ahead, Rory McIlroy four behind

Justin Thomas charted a six-under-65 to take a one-off lead in the final round of the WGC-Mexico championship.

Two shots of the lead at the start of the day, the American bogey the first and last holes but had eight birdies in between to reach 15 below, with Patrick Reed and Erik van Rooyen in second place.

Spaniard Jon Rahm set a new course record of 61, with nine birdies plus a hole in one, and is 11 below.

Rory McIlroy, three & rear at night, is also four after the lead after a 68.

The number one in the world, looking for his second consecutive WGC title after success in Shanghai in November, pin high was riding his 415-yard par four 12 for his fifth birdie of the day, but also recorded two bogeys.

Rahm birdied six of his first seven holes, then on the 158-yard 17th, his tee-shot with a slit once and ducked into the cup.

Hello, the 27-foot putt at the end for a round of 60 ended just short of the gap but he returned his lowest lap as a professional and matched the lowest lap in WGC events.

It was the second ace of the day at Club de Golf Chapultepec, after Chez Reavie holing with a nine-iron on the 167-yard 12th.

Nocturnal leader Bryson DeChambeau sent his tee shot to four feet on the 379-yard second and was three shots ahead before his approach turned back into the water at the sixth, resulting in a double bogey. He had three bogeys on the back, dropping nine in his 71 to 11 below.

Tyrrell Hatton came in on the 16th from behind the green for his seventh bird of the day, and his 66 left him in 10 with fellow Englishman Paul Casey, who also had seven birdies in the same score.
