America Classic Volunteers: Charley Hull Leads First Round

The English Charley Hull has a one-shot lead after hitting a three-under-par 68 in the first round of the Volunteers of America Classic in Texas.

Hull hit six birdies, including four in five holes around the turn, in freezing cold at Old American Golf Club.

Americans Jennifer Kupcho and Jessica Korda and the Thai Pornanong Phatlum are in second place, second below, as only nine of the 97 participants crossed the par.

"I had trouble swinging the last two holes, I got so cold," said Hull.

"I played pretty solid. Golf course plays so much differently than last year. It plays much longer, which I prefer."

Er are 15 players who o must complete their first round on Friday after play was interrupted due to poor lighting on Thursday.

Two-time Great Winner Anna Nordqvist from Sweden is part of a group of five players with two shots from the lead to one under par.

England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff opened with a one-over 72, with fellow countryman Mel Reid a shot further back.

Stephanie Meadow in Northern Ireland, who finished third in the Pelican Championship last week is seven shots off the lead.
