ANA Inspiration: Mirim Lee wins first major title after three-way playoff

Mirim Lee of South Korea won her first major title with the ANA Inspiration after a three-player play-off.

The 29-year-old defeated Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson – who shared the lead after the third round – with a birdie on the first extra hole.

She shot a five-under-par 67 in the final round, including three chip-ins and an eagle on the 18th, to be tied at 15 under in regular play.

"I told myself to finish this quickly," she said.

Victory marks Lee & # 39; s fourth LPGA title and her first since 2017.

Her previous best finish in a major came up the 2016 British Open when she tied for second place.

Lee had been two shots out t he passed at the start of Sunday's final round in California, in third place with Lexi Thompson and Katherine Kirk behind the American Korda and the Canadian Henderson.

After already chipping at sixth, Lee found the cup off the green at 16.

But with a bogey on the penultimate hole it seemed her chance was gone, only for her to produce more magic through the back of the green on the 72nd hole.

Korda was in charge from round one, hitting six birdies in her last round, but none came on her last four holes – including missing a putt to win the final .

England's Mel Reid finished seventh out of nine – her best finish at the event – while Georgia Hall was back one down again.
