West Virginia offers plenty of natural beauty to anyone visiting or passing through. And the natural environment has provided golf course architects with some great opportunities to create stunning layouts that test golfers of every handicap. While the best golf courses in West Virginia may not have the same reputation as other states, the area makes up for it with several player favorite tracks that highlight West Virginia's natural beauty and mountainous terrain in abundance.

The Highlands Golf Club on Fisher Mountain

Located in the eastern Allegheny Mountains, The Highlands Golf Club on Fisher Mountain is often regarded as one of the best golf courses in West Virginia, and one well worth a visit. The front nine put your goal to the test, with a few tee shots that require you to thread the needle a bit to find the fairway. And the two par-5 holes in the front give you the chance to let your driver run. Once you've made the turn, the back nine is even better, with an island green on the 10th and another par-5 hole on number 12. Long grasses, a handful of blind shots, and the elevation changes in the mountains and valley make this is a memorable course played from one of the tees.

Greenbrier – Old White Course

The Old White was the very first 18-hole course at the
Greenbrier when it opened in 1914. And part of the history of the course
includes the fact that some of the holes are modeled after some of Europe
famous courses. Much of the test for golfers has been shot strategically here
placement, club selection, and preparing yourself for success won't do that
necessarily easy, but will certainly be fun. From the raised first tee to
the par-3 18th, the Old White Course really offers golfers something
special, and a bit of a golf oasis in the mountainous West Virginia countryside.

The Arnold Palmer Signature Course at Stonewall Resort

When an Arnold Palmer course is available in a state
you visit it should absolutely be on your list. And West
Virginia is no exception, with the Stonewall Resort's Arnold Palmer Signature
Class. Located in Roanoke, the course has wowed golfers since 2002.
Seven sets of tees make it accessible to golfers of all skill levels, from
juniors just starting to scratch golfers and everything in between. The 604 yard
par-5 fourth hole may sound intimidating, but many other holes can
surprise you. The signature sixth, a short par-3 played downhill, requires
clearing the lake up to get to the well-formed green. And there are plenty of them
of exciting shots waiting for you on every hole.
