I am a bit sad at the moment. It is winter in New York and I have just returned from my trip to Bermuda. I miss the beautiful views, great golf courses and especially my host for the whole trip – the Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa.

If you've never been in Bermuda, it's one of the most beautiful islands filled with some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I have been fortunate enough to travel to places like Hawaii, The Caribbean and Southeast Asia – Bermuda is all there with its beaches and clear blue oceans. Best of all, it's only a 90-minute flight from JFK Airport, making it an ideal location for golfers on the east coast.

On top of that Bermuda has a number of incredible golf courses where your eyes jump out of their greenhouses, such as Port Royal Golf Club.

How is that for a view?

I spent 6 nights at the Cambridge Beaches Resort while taking part in the Invitational tournament of Gosling. I will do my best to give you all an overview of why this is such a special destination. I did not think I could transfer my trip to Cabot Links, but they are now neck and neck in my memory bank.

I will also tell you a little secret that most golfers do not know. The outdoor season of Bermuda runs from about November to April. While warmer destinations such as Florida and the Caribbean are considering this high season and charging big dollars, you can get some incredible deals on a golf vacation to Cambridge Beach while the weather is still very pleasant. I will give you some more info at the end of the article.

Let's dig in …

An amazing property

Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa is located on the west side of Bermuda, near the village of Somerset. For nearly 100 years it has been one of the best resorts on the island and I have quickly discovered why.

Bermuda is a very small island that stretches only 22 miles. As you can imagine, the country is a premium. Most resorts there do not have much space, but the thing that distinguishes the Cambridge beaches is the size and location of their resort. The property is quite huge and located on a peninsula that gives you clear views of the ocean no matter where you are. Many of the cottage-style accommodations offer stunning views and give guests a very personal experience.

In general, the property has a very peaceful, secluded feeling. While you are in the area of many activities, you feel like you are in your own small world at the resort.

The view from our balcony

The property also has 4 private beaches that you approach close and personal with the ocean. Their infinity pool overlooks a bay with the light blue water of Bermuda that is so clear that you can see beautiful corals and fish swimming up close.

In short, Cambridge Beaches is one of the most unique and beautiful resort properties I have ever had. It has all the rustic charms of Bermuda's past, but with modern amenities that make your stay a luxury experience. As soon as you stand there, you know what I'm talking about. Here is a gallery of some photos that I have made on the site:

Let's talk about golf

Because this is a golf course, you probably want to know more about your golf opportunities on Bermuda. Many do not know, but Bermuda is a great golf destination that probably does not get as much attention as it should.

As I participated in the Invitational of the Gosling game, I got the chance to play rounds at the Port Royal golf course and the Belmont Hills Golf Club. Both are within 15 minutes drive from the beaches of Cambridge. Port Royal was one of my favorite courses I've ever played and reminded me of rounds I played in Hawaii. It organized the PGA Grand Slam or Golf of 2009-2014 and is arguably the most prestigious golf course on the island.

The distinctive 16th hole at Port Royal Golf Club

Belmont Hills was a completely different test. The short, winding layout was different from anything I had ever seen. Several holes have "Belmonted" me with their blind tee-shots and narrow landing sites. It is a nice challenge with a beautiful view.

There are several other courses on the island, including Turtle Hill, Tucker's Point, Ocean View and the famous Mid Ocean Club (private). Clarence Hofheins, the General Manager of Cambridge Beaches, told me that the resort can arrange rounds on every course and can include it in your package, even Mid Ocean Club.

Long story short, you have plenty of great golf courses to choose from. In the off-season, you can include many of your rounds in your resort fee at very competitive rates. So if you're looking for a quick golf trip during late autumn or winter, you can save some serious money instead of going to places like Arizona, Florida or the Caribbean where peak rates are calculated

Food / Staff / Bar

When you visit Cambridge Beaches, you must prepare to eat well. Every morning there is a breakfast buffet (included in your price) with all imaginable breakfast products you can think of. On the first morning my wife and I were treated to clear blue skies and 75 degrees weather, while we ate our breakfast overlooking the bay.

While one of the restaurants on the premises is closed during the low season (Breezes), their main restaurant, Tamarisk remains open for lunch and dinner. We had different meals there and everything was absolutely delicious. There are other good restaurants in the area where you can travel if you want variety, but know that you do not have to leave the resort if you do not want to.

There is also a great bar and a sitting area next to Tamarisk that feels like you are back in time to a cozy cottage. My wife and I enjoyed several drafts and there were also some drinks and nice stories in the late evening with the ex-professional athletes of the Pro Players Tour.

Checkers and a drink?

One thing that I can not emphasize enough is the service. From the moment we checked in each staff member was friendly, friendly and made sure we enjoyed our stay from start to finish. Anyone who has previously traveled to Bermuda knows that this is a recurring theme on the island, because they are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. You can expect a first class experience during your visit.

Accommodations and other services

My wife and I were lucky enough to stay in one of the Superior Water View suites. It was a huge, comfortable room with huge views of Mangrove Bay from every window. There are plenty of options to choose from on the property with nearly 80 rooms available. You can expect to have a luxury experience in each of their rooms, which is attested by the majority of TripAdvisor reviews.

If that is not enough, there is also a high-end spa on site. The Ocean Spa features an indoor pool, hot tub, gym, sauna, steam room and a wide range of services, including massages and beauty treatments.

The indoor pool at the spa

I found myself relaxing there almost every day after a game of golf in the hot tub or sauna. They can pamper themselves for important others who do not play golf. My wife treated herself to a pedicure that was a luxury for her because she did not have our 5-year-old and 2-year-old. I also received a relaxing massage one afternoon, which was a nice addition to a lot of golf.

If you have not finished playing golf before today, they have a big crumbling and putting green outside the spa so you can challenge your friends for a game that has not been dealt with on the court.

Your secret destination

Many golfers like myself are looking for a way out of the cold weather. Although I love to play in places like Florida, they can be busy and expensive during the winter months.

Despite traveling to Bermuda before, I never thought about it as an option to play golf in the winter. Because it is a semi-tropical island, the winter months still have average temperatures of 60 to 70 degrees, but due to the humidity it feels warmer. Although you will not always have a beach holiday at those temperatures, it is warm enough to play golf.

There lies the advantage of the island for golfers. Because Bermuda is not as popular as the general traveling public during the off-season, places such as the beaches of Cambridge offer extremely low rates to tempt visitors. Rooms that cost more than $ 500- $ 800 in summer can be done for just $ 250 a night including your round of golf and that great breakfast I told you about. So if you are planning to make your next friends a golf trip in the winter, you can easily achieve a great group rate with golf on all courses on the island.

Because Bermuda is close to the east coast, it makes sense that golfers live nearby. This image shows how short the flights are from major cities:

If you want to book a golf package, please contact the resort directly for a quote.

Bermuda is a special place and I hope to come back every year to play in the Invitational of Gosling. I also have the idea to hold a Practical Golf outing / tournament soon, so keep an eye on the details in our newsletter.

I can not say enough about the beaches of Cambridge. If you are considering a golf trip or a holiday to the island, this should be at the top of your list. You can find more information about the resort on their website here.
