Junior Vic Open begins
Calm and cloudy weather greeted players this morning for the second edition of the renewed Junior Victorian Open on 13th Beach Golf Links and Barwon Heads Golf Club.
178 of the best juniors from all over Australia and overseas gathered in pursuit for the coveted 2018 title.
The boys and girls winner this year is guaranteed to be a start in the Vic Open in February 2019.
Daniel Gill (Commonwealth) has been shot to the top of the boys' leader board after firing an incredible 5-under-67 on the 13th Beach-Creek course in round 1 this morning.
Gill's round included 6 birdies and an eagle on the par five 7th hole.
Just behind on 4-under-par are Harrison Burner (Glenelg – SA) and Tom Ryan (Cranbourne).
In the girls' section Piper Stubbs (Huntingdale) and Min-A Yoon (Korea) are stuck for the lead at 3-under-par.
It was a very impressive effort from Stubbs, as she came back early in Melbourne this morning after returning from the competition in New Zealand.
Min-A Yoon continues to impress after she has proven her ability with the Victorian Amateur last week.
Sitting in third place in the girls' section is June Song, which returned a 1-under-71 on the 13th Beach Beach Course
The Junior Victorian Open was first run in 2013 as an 18-hole event in the run-up to the Vic Open.
After the recent success of the Vic Open, the Junior Vic Open 2017 expanded with more than 72 holes on the 13th Beach Golf Links and Barwon Heads Golf Club.
All players complete a round at the Beach and Creek courses on 13th Beach and a round at Barwon Heads before the last round is played at Barwon Heads on Thursday, December 20th.
