Romain Langasque is short of five shots nullified to win the Wales Open at Celtic Manor.

The 25-year-old Frenchman carded six birdies and no bogeys in a beautiful closing 65 to claim his first European Tour title.

Langasque finished eight under par, two shots ahead of Finnish Sami Valimaki, with Englishmen David Dixon and Matthew Jordan one shot further back.

Victory also secured Langasque a US Open debut in September.

"Everything in golf can go so fast," he said. "I'm really happy. This is where we all want to be.

" Now I have some good opportunities. I have to concentrate again, but I'm looking forward to that.

"Playing my first US Open this year, the good thing is that without an audience there is less pressure on it being my first. I'm really proud of myself."

Swedish Sebastian Soderberg had to bird the 18th to force a playoff, but suffered a triple-bogey eight after firing his third shot back into the water .

Scottish Connor Syme, who shared the lead of the night with Soderberg, also found water on the latter to double a double bogey and slipped into a draw for the eighth .
