Rory McIlroy defeated Xander Schauffele at first play-off hole to win the 2019 WGC-HSBC Champions Event

This year's WGC-HSBC Champions event in China has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The tournament was to be held from October 29 to October 29 at Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai. November 1st.

The Chinese government says the country will not host any sporting events this year, other than trials for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

"We worked closely with all Tours, international officials, the China Golf Association and other local parties to find a solution to host the WGC-HSBC C hampions," said the PGA Tour.

"In accordance with the guidelines of the Chinese government and aware of the logistical implications, we have jointly made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event."

The WGC-HSBC Champions, which began in 2005, is co-sanctioned by all major tours and became one of the four annual World Golf Championships in 2009.
