British Masters: Marcus Kinhult pips Matt Wallace to title in Southport

Marcus Kinhult birdied the last two holes on Hillside GC to beat Matt Wallace by a shot at the British finals of Bury Masters, Southport-16 M Kinhult (Swe); -15 M Wallace (Eng), E Pepperell (Eng), R MacIntyre (Sco); -12 R Ramsay (Sco); -11 P Waring (Eng), J Smith (Eng). The Swede Marcus Kinhult won his first European Tour title by beating Matt Wallace of England in the final hole of the British Masters.

The pair was tied at 15 under down the last, but a furious Wallace missed a 15-footer before Kinhult sunk a 10-foot birdie for a 70-round final.

Eddie Pepperell from England ended with Wallace and Scotland's Robert MacIntyre on 15 under with a six under 66

Local host Tommy Fleetwood finished tenth after a final round of 73.

Kinhult, who birdied the last two holes where Wallace could only par, Sky Sports said: "I am speechless. I do not know what happened in the last two hours. I was behind and Matt looked very solid, but I just managed to make those two birdies.

"A lot goes through your head and emotions but I" I am so happy that I can handle them so well. This game is so weird, they are small margins.

"I am waiting for 20 years now. "
