British Masters: Matthew Jordan drops nine birdies to take the lead in Southport

Matthew Jordan in the UK fought against wet and cold circumstances in Southport shoots 63 for a two-leg lead after the first round of the British Masters.
The 23-year-old, in only his 12th event as a professional, sunk nine birdies to sit at nine under par, with fellow Englishman Matt Wallace and Swede Marcus Kinhult both at seven below.
Lee Westwood and Scot Richie Ramsay are once again behind in a group.
"I just tried to shoot as low as I could," Jordan said.

"You begin to realize that you are doing reasonably well because more people are popping up and you see a number of cameras. I was perhaps nervous for a few holes, such as around 11 and 12, and then I settled in, which was strange. "
Jordan, from nearby Hoylake, registered his best result as a professional in a Challenge Tour event in Turkey two weeks ago, where he held a second round 62 on his way to seventh place.
Tournament hammer Tommy Fleetwood, who after an opening 68 had five shots next to the lead on the Hillside course in Southport, said: "I have known him for a long time, we all know what he is capable of.
"That is a great first round and I think it will be good for him now."
