Former European Ryder Cup player Gordon Brand Jr. died at the age of 60.

The Bristol-Scot won eight times on the European Tour of 1982-93 and was regularly on the senior circuit.

Brand Jr. played in two Ryder Cups and made his debut in 1987 when Europe first won in America, before helping to maintain The Trophy two years later.

He worked as a commentator on the track during last month's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

The 60-year-old remained active on the European Staysure Tour, which participated in the Swiss Senior Open last month.

The Staysure Tour tweeted a condolence message and said, "We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Gordon Brand Jnr. Our deepest sympathies are with his family right now."
