Justin Thomas and Adam Scott are equal for the lead at 10 of the Genesis Open, but both failed to finish their second round in California.

After rain delays on Thursday, the game ended on Friday with none of the 144 players who could complete 36 holes.

JB Holmes is at nine while Jordan Spieth did not start his second round and is still on seven under.

American Thomas reached five under 12 holes after 12 holes, while Australian Scott ended 11 holes.

After starting his first round on Friday, the Masters champions of 2013 also reached five under for his second round, with five birdies spoiled by a bogey on the par-five 17th.

But he told the PGA Tour website that a new pair of socks helped him between the rounds.

"You always feel better with fresh feet," Scott grinned as he held up the wet couple from his box in the day before.

"It's a good seasoned move, and it helped me carry the momentum of the morning."

Holmes of America hit a hole-in-one on the par-three sixth for a 63, which was the best score of the opening round.

But he is a shot from the lead after two birdies and a bogey through nine holes of his second round.

Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland improved at an opening 72 by four birdies by hitting 12 holes in his second round to go to three under.

Tiger Woods is one underneath after an opening round of 70 and is equal on level by 12 holes for his second round, after he had first sunk a leg of 44 feet to eagle on the par-five
