Justin Thomas: Ralph Lauren Ends Sponsoring Due to Homophobic Blemish
Justin Thomas has won one major, the 2017 PGA Championship
Clothing brand Ralph Lauren has ended his sponsorship of world number three Justin Thomas after using a homophobic slur.
Thomas apologized for the comment, made during the third round of the Sentry Tour of Champions in Hawaii before this month.
"It's inexcusable," said Thomas, 27.
Ralph Lauren said it was "discouraged" by using "language completely contrary to our values" by the Ryder Cup player.
Confirming that it ended its sponsorship with the player, the company added: "Although we Recognizing that he has apologized and acknowledges the rigor of his words, he is a paid ambassador for our brand and his actions are contrary to the inclusive culture that we uphold. " He said he hoped Thomas "will do the hard and necessary work to work with us again".
Television microphones picked up on the American's comment after missing a five-foot par putt on the fourth hole.
The PGA Tour is expected to fine the former world number one for his behavior.
