Martin Kaymer takes two shots ahead of the final round of the Memorial Tournament in Ohio because he wants to end a five-year period without a win.

The 34-year-old sunk six birdies in a bogey-free 66, with the Australian Adam Scott – who matched the German round – in second place at 13 below.

Three times the big winner Jordan Spieth is 11 together with fellow American Patrick Cantlay.

Hideki Matsuyama is also ranked 11th after 64 – the best score of the day.

Justin Rose is tied as 10th after following a second round 63 with a 71 in which a double bogey was part of the fifth and two other bogeys, he effectively put an end to his hope of being added to the Farmers Insurance Open, which he won in January.

Another Englishman, Luke Donald, shot up 50 places after a brilliant seven-under-par round of 65 that started with a bogey at the opening hole. He is six under for the tournament, along with Sheffield & Danny Willett, who completed a level-par round.

Masters winner Tiger Woods won a birdie on the first of a bunker shot, but ended up with a two-under-par 70 – disconnected 25th and 11 shots from the lead.
