Shane Lowry and his caddy Brian & # 39; Bo & # 39; Martin celebrate this while walking to the 18th green on Sunday

Open champion Shane Lowry says a unique chemistry with bagman Brian & # 39; Bo & # 39; Martin was the key to his Royal Portrush triumph.

Co Down man Martin started caddying for Lowry last September, who won on his own soil to secure his first major.

"There is no doubt that my wave has improved since he started caddying for me, so I owe him a lot," Lowry said.

"We are like people, very lucky – we just said let's enjoy it, play golf, have some fun on the way a few pounds."

Lowry is ready for a rapture when he Tuesday evening with the Claret Jug returns to his hometown Clara in Co Offaly.

The 32-year-old won by six shots on the north coast on the left and joins Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington on the list of Irish big winners since 2007.

] Lowry returns to competitive action in fourteen days and he is not considering winning just number two.

"I'm just glad it was me" – Lowry

He added: "I am obviously very happy with it – I am going to try to process this first, enjoy this week and I have a few weeks off before I go to America for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

"I press the reset button next week and go back to practice – and then set new goals.

"I had a number of goals at the beginning of the year and they are almost completely fulfilled, so I have to set new goals for the rest of the year and see where it leaves me.

"It is a bit surreal to be on that list of golfers alongside Rory, Gmac, Darren and Paddy.

"I woke up this morning and looked at the Claret Jug on my bedside table – it's hard to believe really."
