Puma Golf recently made some upgrades for their Ignite NXT line. For golfers who want a comfortable, spikeless shoe, these have been a popular option for several years.
I got a chance to try them out on the course and during my practice sessions. I think Puma has made some nice upgrades that will be well received. There are several considerations that I will come to, but in general I think they have great value.
What I liked
In general, I found that the Puma Ignite NXT
was a significant improvement over the last iteration. There is much to be found here.
After hitting a lot of balls while practicing and running the course several times, I noticed a number of important differences.
The most important point for improvement is stability. Typically, I have found that shoes in this category offer a lightweight feel and comfortable walking, but they lack support. That is not the case with the Ignite NXT. I think golfers looking for more support for their feet while swinging will love what this shoe has to offer.
Moreover, for a player who mainly walks the course, I would say that there is a lot of comfort built into these shoes. I wouldn't call it extreme comfort, but if I had to judge, it would be an A-minus.
There are three options for the Ignite NXT – a disk model (no laces), a solelace (to offer more support) and traditionally laced.
The mesh layer on the front is a nice feature because it allows some breathability. Puma says it is waterproof, and although I had no problems getting through light moisture, I was unable to test them in a more substantial downpour
My overall impression of the shoe is that it is made of high-quality materials and that their new design elements have delivered better performance
Regarding appearance, I happen to have an athletic-looking option in the mix. But that is of course a subjective evaluation, depending on the golfer. Multiple color options are available.
Some things to be aware of
The fit of the Puma Ignite NXT
is certainly on the larger side, so they recommend that you go down half a size.
I would also say that golfers with wider feet may have a problem. In general, I have found that Puma has a very close fit, which might not be a problem for most golfers. My feet are wider than most, so I went with the broad option.
In general, I didn't think it was too big a problem, but after a few kilometers I could feel a little tightness and pressure toward my feet. It is something to note for golfers who have extremely wide feet.
I also found some minor problems with traction. Golfers who purchase spikeless shoes would not expect too much in this category, but I have seen that some spikeless designs are better than others to connect to the ground. In one lap my back foot slipped twice while I was swinging. There was light moisture on the floor, but I wouldn't call it "slippery" conditions. They usually performed well in dry conditions, but it is something to watch out for when you plan to play when wet.
Overall, these large spikeless shoes
I think Puma has done a great job with these shoes. For just over $ 100, I believe there is a lot of value. Although there may be some problems with golfers with very broad feet and small traction compromises, all I have left, I give a thumbs up.
If you are a golfer who mainly walks on the golf course, you like an athletic look for your shoes and do not want to break the couch – I think they are a good option.
