Rory McIlroy hopes that he will not "walk through the motions" during the Scottish Open while warming up for an Open Championship in Portrush next week.
The four-fold big winner, 30, has never won a tournament in Scotland.
McIlroy will play alongside American Rickie Fowler and home favorite Robert MacIntyre at North Berwick & # 39; s Renaissance Club on Thursday.
"My second week of competitive golf is usually my best week," the Northern Irishman said.
"It's not like I just want to come here and go through the motions and get ready. I want to play well this week.
" There is no better preparation to compete in majors than to fight yourself the week before. This is a very important event for me. It is good to come back here and familiarize myself again with left golf.
"They are different shots, different greens, different circumstances. From 10 meters of greens, bumps and runs, the things you do are not really week in, week out in America. Many of us play now most of our golf. "
