Sergio Garcia took the 16th European Tour title of his career with a win with one win at the KLM Open in the Netherlands.

A final three-under 69 was enough for the 39-year-old to finish one out of the Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark.

The Spaniard has dropped to 43rd in the world and this was his first victory since the Andalucia Masters 2018.

The Englishman Callum Shinkwin started as a joint leader with Garcia but shot a two-fold 74 as fifth.

Matt Wallace placed a 68 for third place, while James Morrison was fourth.

The victory was a welcome piece of good news for Garcia in a difficult year in which he was disqualified for a tournament in Saudi Arabia for damaging greens and criticized at The Open for throwing his driver at his caddy.
