Shane Lowry from Ireland scored a course record of 10-under-par 62 to take the lead of the club house in the first round of the Abu Dhabi championship in the UAE.

Lowry's bogey-round round on Wednesday included five birdies on the front nine and five on the back nine.

The player of County Offaly, 31, has a three-lead advantage over South Africans Louis Oosthuizen and Richard Sterne, plus Mike Lorenzo-Vera of France.

Lee Westwood is six under ten with Ian Poulter five under eleven holes.

Tommy Fleetwood, Ross Fisher and James Morrison are all in the club house at three under, along with world number three Dustin Johnson.
