Jon Rahm in Spain retained his Spanish Open title with a five-fold victory over fellow countryman Rafa Cabrera Bello.

Rahm had a lead of five shots and went to the Madrid final in Sunday and he defeated the title after carding a final round of five under par 66.

World number 1.413 Samuel Del Val turned it into a Spanish one-two. three at 15 below.

The victory was the 24-year-old world number five & # 39; s fifth on the European Tour and second this year after the Irish Open in July.

The victory seemed assured of wondering if Rahm started his final round with three pars for an eagle three in the par-five fourth, then two more birdies on the front nine.

Two further birdies followed on 10 and 14 before a shot shot at 17 only saw him shooting his sixth bogey of the week.

"I'm not glad I putted three, I wanted to go bogey-free, but at the end of the day I did the important thing, I could successfully defend it before the home crowd," said Rahm to Sky Sports.

"It may not be the strongest field yet, but it is always really hard for me to keep everything under control and the weekend I did for them is always fun.

"I can't wait until next year to come back and hopefully do three times."

Rahm now leads the European Tour & # 39; s Race to Dubai leaderboard with seven remaining events, overtaking Open champion Shane Lowry.
