We can't get enough of New Orleans: the food … the people … the festivities …
And what about the fairways! The local golf scene is buzzing with a neat collection of layouts in the city and another collection in the West Bank.
Quick Tourist Tip: The "West Bank" is actually east of New Orleans' central business district and sits on the west bank of the meandering Mississippi River. (that's not the only local jargon it takes to get into NoLa).
One of the best golf courses in the New Orleans market is Stonebridge Golf Club in Gretna. This semi-private club not only has an affordable 18-hole championship course, but also a 9-hole course, The Harvey Course, which is suitable for beginners and fast, loose rounds.
As we are on the bayou, you can expect quite a few water hazards during the round. Among them is the par-3 5th hole, just 141 yards from the rear tees, but requires an agile carry across a pond to the shallow green.
The Harvey Nine, meanwhile, is a par 35 layout of just over 3000 meters.
The Stonebridge golf courses have received some TLC in recent years, culminating in a bunker renovation project.
"The pace of the game was great," wrote Golf Advisor reviewer "HalSimoneaux. “The course was in very good condition. The greens played hard and fast. Putts rolled very cleanly. "
The review also thanks the staff for the measures taken to ensure a safe COVID-19 environment on the track and throughout the clubhouse.
Speaking of great vibes, Stonebridge has up his game. They host Cornhole tournaments every night (public welcome!) And seniors can participate in league events every Tuesday and Thursday morning. And the clubhouse is currently undergoing extensive upgrades. The grill, golf shop and ballroom are all in the midst of an upgrade that will lead to an improved food and drink menu, and a pool will be added in Spring 2021.
