Spotlight: The Bridges Golf Club in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

October 28, 2020

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a vibrant and busy scene. Fortunately, there are quiet escapes if you know where to look.

Metroplex knowledgeable golfers will lure you into the solitude available in Gunter, Texas at The Bridges Golf Club, located north of downtown Dallas on Highway 289.

The Bridges is one of Metroplex's newest public golf courses, opened in 2008. It was designed by golf course architect Jeff Brauer and PGA Tour hall-of-famer Fred Couples.

A good dose of "Boom-Boom" is needed when you play the tips. This course can stretch to over 7,600 meters! And The Bridges has been awarded a US Open 2021 local qualification site by the USGA (May 2021 for all plus handicaps out there). The truth is that there is a lot of space here for long holes, as well as a pleasant environment. The course winds through The Bridges at Preston Crossing, but the holes are spread out, giving golfers plenty of room to swing and little or no other groups to be seen or heard. The front two of the five sets of tees play below 6,000 yards, so everyone has a good time here.

Facilities are also worthy of elite events. There is a full driving range, short game area and practice green. Members of this semi-private club enjoy pool, tennis and fitness facilities.

"This course is one of my go-to's for a fun, stress-free round," wrote bnovak24 in a 5-star review of Golf Advisor's The Bridges in October 2020. "It's in great shape, the staff are friendly and the handling, holes are challenging and affordable. Always a win / win here! ”

If it's been a while since you've played The Bridges, come back and check out the courses' brand new greenside bunkers. Drainage has been added and both wooden bridges have been replaced.

So put Gunter on your DFW golf card. A day of golf for the public in North Texas doesn't get any better than The Bridges Golf Club.
