Stephanie Meadow of Northern Ireland equaled her best previous finish in an LPGA event when she took third place at the Pelican Championship in Florida.

Meadow, 28, fired a closing one under 69 to finish nine under when she finished the tournament five shots behind South Korea's winner Sei Young Kim.

The Northern Irish woman recovered from two direct bogeys while fighting for second place with American player Ally McDonald.

McDonald & # 39; s closing birdie meant she finished three behind Kim.

Meadow was tied at 10 bottom with McDonald on the 18th tee after birdie the 17th, but the Northern Irish woman dropped a shot at the last.

The Jordanstown resident dropped shots at her two hole opening, but recovered by picking up birdies on the sixth, seventh, 10th, 15th and penultimate holes.

The achievement, which matched her previous best LPGA finish of third place at the US Open 2014, moves Meadow 24 places to 35 in the LPGA season rankings.

England's Mel Reid, who won her first LPGA event earlier in early October, finished 12th – 11th the pace – with her compatriot Jodi Ewart Shadoff one more battle back in the 14th.

Germany's Women & # 39; s Open Champion Sophia Popov, who led after an opening 64, finished in joint 15th place at bottom one after a closing price of 70.

Ireland's Leona Maguire finished in 53rd place after finishing seventh at 74th, falling from 54th to 61st in the LPGA rankings.
