The Chinese Yu Liu and the French Celine Boutier participated in the lead for the final round of the US Women & # 39; s Open.

The couple, friends of their time on the Duke University golf team that won the 2014 collegiate title, are both seven under par.

Liu scored a five-under-66 on day three in her first US Open.

"This is something that really does not meet my expectations," Liu said. "I was just happy to make the cut."

Charley Hull of England equals an 18th to one after a second consecutive one-under-par 70, six shots back from the leaders.

However, compatriot Jodi Ewart Shadoff, the only other English woman to make the cut, is in 70th position after a round of seven points, making her 10.

Liu, who is looking for her first tour title, started the day four shots drifting but rebounded from a triple jump bogey at the third with three birdies on the front nine and three behind.

"I'm just trying to embrace the moment, play with my big friend," she said. "It will be very nice."

In addition to the previous solo leader Mamiko Higa, Americans Lexi Thompson and Jaye Marie Green are sixth down, while defending champion Ariya Jutanugarn shot a 69 – her best of the tournament so far – to be stuck for the 27th place on one more than par.
