Christiaan Bezuidenhout from South Africa survived in the middle of the round a cruise to a six-fold victory at the Andalucia Masters in Valderrama.
Bezuidenhout, 25, took a five-shot led to the final round and birdied the first two holes to go seven clear.
But he bogeyed four of the following five to see his lead cut to three by playing partner and home favorite Jon Rahm.
Three birdies from the ninth put him under command again and he continued to claim his first European Tour title.
Bezuidenhout also provided a place in The Open at Royal Portrush.
The South African, who was surprised by his relatives on the 18th year, said: "I am proud of myself because I hung there today after a difficult period in the middle of my round."
Rahm finished in a draw for second place alongside Spaniards Alvaro Quiros, Eduardo de la Riva and Adri Arnaus, as well as Mike Fr Mike Lorenzo Vera, with tournament guest Sergio Garcia.
Andy Sullivan was the best of the British challengers, the Englishman finished in one.
Shot Scott Jamieson and the English pair of Jack Singh Brar and Steven Brown all ended up at the same level
