Jason Day has appeared on TPC Sawgrass in Florida for the Players Championship, apparently after the back injury that forced him to retreat to Bay Hill last week.
Day, the winner of the 2016 Players, to reporters he had recovered, despite the fact that he said last week that an MRI had revealed a tear in the L4 and L5 discs in his lower back.
He played only six holes on the first day of Arnold Palmers tournament in Bay Hill.
"I feel great," he said today. "My back feels much better."
Tiger Woods was also preparing for the players on Sawgrass on Monday despite his withdrawal from Bay Hill with a neck problem. Woods also said that he was suitable to play.
"I did not want to push it, do not need it," Woods said last week about his decision. "Not at my age, can not do that anymore."
Day is one of five Australians in the field this week, the others are Adam Scott, Aaron Baddeley, Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman. Baddeley played a strong part in the field in the beginning of 2019, despite the start of the year with only limited playing rights.
The players are worth $ 12.5 million in prize money and were previously won by a few Australians – Greg Norman, Scott, Day and Steve Elkington (twice).
