Josh Greer's jet setting paid off with the selection of the Junior Presidents Cup.

Josh Greer knew that his spring was almost dry, but he went back one last time.

And at the very last minute, the young West Australian Junior Presidents Cup pays dirt

In fact, he is one of two Perth products, alongside Karl Vilips, who will represent not only Australia but the entire "International" zone as part of the Junior Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne in December.

Vilips, 18, from Florida, is in the top three of the AJGA rankings for boys this year and always looked safe to qualify.

It appears that third place in the recent Junior Players Championship labeled him with rubber as the best qualification of the international team.

But it wasn't that predictable for Greer-born Scotland, who is back in Perth this week after a long and, it turns out, productive international golf odyssey.

The 18-year-old toured for nearly three consecutive months and played in nine tournaments on three continents at that time.

But it was only at the last that his Junior Presidents Cup papers were stamped with the 12th and final berth in the team.

"I knew it was close," said Greer, who reached the Round of 16 at both the US Boys & Amateur and The Amateur Championship in England, divided by ninth place in the Scottish Amateur.

"That brought me in (the team), but it was only after the players that I knew I had made it.

"I wasn't going to play the British, but that's what brought me in."

Greer, a member of Joondalup, is no stranger to Royal Melbourne that finished 16th earlier this year with the Australian Master of Amateurs on the West Course.

But he is the first to admit that playing for Tiger Woods and companionship on the Composite Course days before the Presidential Cup will be a whole new ball game.

"I just thought about what it would be like to play for Tiger," Greer said.

"I can't wait to meet Tiger and all the professionals there … it will be great.

"I've represented Australia before, but this is another big step on the international stage … it's great and I can't wait."

The two-day tournament will be played in Royal Melbourne on December 8-9. The international team will be captained by Australian legend Stuart Appleby, while the Americans have Justin Leonard at the helm.
