Jye flies to Avondale Amateur

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE: Jye Pickin led after the first round of the Avondale Amateur

Jye Pickin used a bit of local knowledge to lead the first round at Avondale Amateur in 2019.

Pickin, the captain of the NSW boys' team and the current Avondale club champion, was in the first group of the day and used the perfect conditions to make a handy five-under-par 66. His round included seven birdies, with his only blemishes arriving on the 3rd and 16th holes.

A shot back is Thomas Heaton's trio from The Australian Golf Club, and Victorians Andre Lautee and Aiden Didone.

The Heaton round was by far the best of the afternoon and the ravines ventured to the late starters.

In the women's division there is a three-way tie at the top of the ranking of one below par.

Emily Toy from England, who knew the 36-hole strokeplay of women at NSW Amateur, Queenslander Hye Park last week and Seunghul Bong from Korea, has two shots ahead of another trio of golfers, including local favorite Grace Kim, van Avondale, 2019 Master of the Amateurs champion, Stephanie Kyriacou and Kumkang Park, from Korea.

The second round is under way with the leading players on the track.
