Sand green golfers, winners of the Longreach event Jade Fuller and Kayleen Silvester

From sandy green and tanned fairways to local bush poets and award-winning artists, Longreach had it all.

Both visitors and residents welcomed the third Outback Queensland Masters event during the weekend for Longreach Golf Club, with numerous activities to please golf lovers and traveling nomads.

Golf traffics enjoyed the charms of Longreach Golf Club, which participated in a 9-hole event on traditional sand greens on Saturday and Sunday.

The local Mark Zavialov shone on day one with a brilliant five under 31 points for 24 points to lead the men's match, but it was Jade Fuller who took the orange jacket home and swept the event with 44 points.

"I played well, which was very unexpected and with good company," Fuller said.

"The tournament was good and the race was unreal. The grounds keepers did a great job."

In the women's event, Kayleen Silvester claimed the title with rounds of 24-23 points (47 overall).

Silvester wrote the "fantastic greens" as a key to her success, also with her husband Clayton to win the team event with 44 points.

The fun continued into the night with dinner under the stars and live entertainment from local artists.

After a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Keelan Mailman, participants and spectators were fascinated by the stories of bush poet Carol Heuchan about classical poems and bush humor.

An Australian music icon with an interesting connection with Longreach, the dynamic singer-songwriter and the multi-award-winning performer Melinda Schneider, shared some of her latest and favorite songs, interwoven with a few remarkable yarns

A final surprise appearance of the local legend "the barefoot bush poet" covered an enriching evening.

Thank you to Longreach Regional Council for supporting the event and Longreach Golf Club for providing a unique and unforgettable experience.
