McKinney master class rolls up
Connor McKinney, based in Perth, is ready for the second round of the competition at the 93rd R&A boys' championship in Saunton.
McKinney achieved a convincing 6 & 4 victory over Billy Groom in England in stormy conditions on the southwestern English coast.
Severe circumstances meant that par was enough to win the most holes and McKinney limited his losses well to map only one bogey during the game.
"You can't go too much with this wind or miss out on the wrong places, so it was a matter of hitting the greens or even flying away from flags because the wind was so strong," McKinney said.
& # 39; I only had two birds and a bogeyman. It was just one of those days where there weren't many birdies, and if you made a lot of pars, you'd be close.
As a co-member of Joondalup, Josh Greer has also moved on to the second round of the match thanks to a hard fought 2 & 1 win over Spaniard, Rodrigo Martin.
Greer is known as a tough and sandy matchplay competitor and he will now face Norwegian Bard Bjornevik Skogen for a place in the round of 16.
Kirsten Rudgeley, the only Aussie in the R&A Girls ’Amateur Championship, has won her opening two games to advance to the third competition round in Panmure.
The young Mount Lawley product crossed in its morning competition to a 5 & 4 victory over South African, Jordan Rothman.
Rudgeley's afternoon game against Adela Cernousek from France turned out to be a much tighter case in which the young West Aussie eventually won a 2 & 1 victory.
