Sunshine Coast teen Cassie Porter has made a sensational individual effort to finish first in the Toyota World Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.

Porter, 16, from Peregian Springs, shot rounds from 71-70-67-69 to complete the 72-hole course at Chukyo Golf Club, tied to American Rose Zhang and Mexico's Cory Lopez.

Although the Toyota World Junior is a team event, it marks a major step forward for Porter, who led the Queensland team in the recent girls' interstate series and whose amateur victories included the Katherine Kirk Classic.

The Australian team of Porter, Kirsten Rudgeley and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard finished fourth overall behind Japan, Mexico and the United States with Rudgley 13th in the individual and Hinson-Tolchard 24th

The Australian boys were 10th overall, led by West Australian Hayden Hopewell who finished 14th in the individual section.

South Africa dominated the boys' championship and became the first team to ever break 40 substandard pairings
