Adam Scott & # 39; s return to form has four Australians in the seat to play the Presidential Cup in Melbourne this year.
Scott, who had been making steady progress through the rankings lately, finished second at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio over the weekend.
It was enough to place him for the first time since last year's race in fourth place on the international team ranking, well within the top eight that automatically qualifies.
He joins Marc Leishman (1), Cameron Smith (7) and Jason Day (8) in that series, while trying to continue a line in which no fewer than three Australians have participated in every Presidential Cup since its inception in 1994.
The second runner-up was Scott & # 39; s second of the season and represented his fifth top-10 result in 12 starts.
The 38-year-old Queenslander has participated in every Presidential Cup since 2003 and was an automatic qualifier every time except in 2009, when he was one of the two captains for the Greg Norman team in San Francisco.
"I feel good, sure, all I have done is go in the right direction," said Scott
.
While Scott hopes to gain experience for the international team, Patrick Cantlay is one step closer to qualifying for his first Presidential Cup team after the 27-year-old won the Memorial to reach number 6 in the US team stand.
The victory of Cantlay is the culmination of an already star season marked by eight top 10 finishes in 14 starts, including a runner-up in the Shriners Hospitals of Children Open and a T3 finish in the PGA Championship.
The Presidential Cup returns to Royal Melbourne for the third time from December 12 to 15, with teams led by Ernie Els and Tiger Woods who moved back to No.10 from No. 10. 11 in the American rankings after a strong finish at the Memorial.
Meanwhile, two Australians are still prominent in the race to form the Junior Presidents Cup team, with that tournament being held in the days prior to the main event.
Karl Vilips, who played in the inauguration tournament in New Jersey two years ago, remains No.1, while young Josh Younger from Perth grows up to number 11.
The top 12 international players on the WAGR will compete against the United States on 5 September, also in Royal Melbourne.
