The Australian Wade Ormsby takes a one-off lead in the second round of the Scandinavian Invitation on the European Tour after firing a brilliant eagle and six birdies in his bogey-free 62.
Morning starter Ormsby enjoyed a long period at the top of the standings on Thursday after his early burst of scoring with a closing bird to end the day at eight-under-par, one shot away from home favorite Joakim Lagergren and Frenchman Alexander Levy.
Many of the lowest scores were booked by early golf on Thursday, with Lagergren & # 39; s 63, which contained seven birdies and no bogeys, the best lap of the afternoon.
Ormsby is chasing its second European Tour title this week after winning the opening event of the 2018 season, the UBS Hong Kong Open, in November 2017.
He started strong at Hills Golf & Sports Club on the first day and picked up his first bird on the 12th – his third hole – before running his approach to the 14th with a four-iron for a spectacular eagle.
The 39-year-old then ran three consecutive birds on the 16th, 17th and 18th to reach the turn in 28.
Ormsby took the outright lead when he came up and down from a bunker on the green side by the long third hole for a bird to go to par 7 under par.
The Australian was briefly caught at the top of the rankings after Levy completed his round with a birdie in the ninth – his last – but Ormsby also closed his round with a birdie to lead alone.
"I made a pretty straight bird on the 12th and then on the 14th I was sitting between a five and a four iron, grabbed the right one and packed it, so then I got a little speed through the final holes," Ormsby said.
"I felt pretty at ease there, I ran my return putts and that kept the round going, which came to 62."
